The Kansas City Symphony Chorus has offered quality choral music to the greater Kansas City metropolitan area for more than forty years, first as the Mendelssohn Choir, then as the Civic Chorus. In 1988, shortly after the creation of the Kansas City Symphony, the choir became the Kansas City Symphony Chorus, an independent 501(C)3 not-for-profit organization.
While the KCSC is associated with the Kansas City Symphony, the Chorus is an independent 501[c]3 organization that relies on the generosity of donors to continue to offer a wide range of repertoire of choral music for many who would otherwise be unable to afford or access such an experience.
The KCSC supports Arts organizations in the city by providing quality choral performances at affordable rates by being a self-sustaining organization. The Kansas City Symphony Chorus is supported through a combination of donations, grants, membership contributions and the generous support of our patrons which supports the Artistic Director, Executive Director and Accompanist salaries as well rehearsals and concerts venues. The Chorus membership contributes to the operational budgets by having 100% participation from the members. Your contributions are needed to allow the work of the KCSC to continue in the community and to ensure the continuation of the highest caliber Symphonic Choral works in Kansas City.
The Symphony Chorus appears on the Kansas City Symphony concert series, the singers each invest approximately 33 hours of rehearsal and performance time, representing in the aggregate 3,960 hours of professional-level music making. If assigned an appropriate hourly rate, this is a potential gift of almost $120,000 to the Kansas City Symphony for each set of concerts.
